Check out the creation of

Professor Beast Lee's Chronometry Device & Electromagnetic Wave Tube Receiver,

or in laymen terms, a clock radio...

A little tribute to the much loved NIXIE tube...
Here I'm paying homage to the man himself, Nikola Tesla...
A few words about the Radio & it's world...
When I first came up with the idea for this piece I wanted to capture a couple of technologies that I admire and fuse them together... The NIXIE tube for it's shear beauty & wonderment, combined with a 1920's based twin-tube regenerative Radio, all encased in a stunning vintage gumball machine...

Here you see the front opening of the enclosure as well as the side window grill where you can look in and see the twin-tube receiver...
This is the speaker side of the enclosure...
This is the rear of the enclosure where the power & antenna connects as well as the power switch for the radio & LED's...

The casing has been heavily modified to accommodate the two devices... First all the coin mechanism had to be removed as well as holes cut to allow the installation & function of all the components that were required for this project... A tower was fab'd on top from steel to provide a home for the single tube NIXIE clock... Brass and copper pieces were also cut as decorative parts to this creation...

In this image you'll see the steel plate and stanchions that were made so the circuit board could mount to it and the in would attach to the bottom of the casing...
Here is a pic of the twin-tube regenerative radio circuit board... If you look closely at the circuit board you can see the LED's that are installed in the tube sockets...
This is the radio circuit board with the fabricated front plate with the volume and regen knobs, as well as a place for the tuning knob...

Changes were made for the remote mounting of the volume and regen controls, modification were also made to allow the installation and function of green LED's under the tubes themselves...

Here you get to see the twin-tube radio and how it fits inside the casing...
In this shot you can see the NIXIE tube clock is installed as well as the twin-tube radio...
This shows you the details of the front plate with the vintage style chicken head knobs for volume and regen as well as the tuning knob...

It was quite the tight fit to get all the components in this creation to fit inside the casing, but it all worked out in the end...

I thought this to be a beautiful way to display the NIXIE tube itself... The NIXIE is also lit from underneath with a purple LED...
This shows you where you make your adjustments to the clock itself... Minutes - Hour - Mode
Here you see the brass, aluminum, and copper columns that allow for the clock adjustments...

The area where the NIXIE clock resides is all made out of steel and was designed to mimic the inside of a vacuum tube, I thought a fitting home for the NIXIE tube (Z5660M) itself...
